Reva Logan

Reva Logan, matriarch, supporter of the arts, 1922-2013. Reva's greatest joy was her family- especially the youngest members. She was never happier or more fulfilled than when in their company, helping them to learn new skills and the lessons of life, and just plain having fun. Reva and her husband David were major funders of the arts including: the Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago, the Jazz Loft Project, the series "Jazz" on PBS and much more. They were also supporters of journalism and the free press, helping to establish the non-profit Center for Investigative Reporting as a leader in its field, supporting PBS "Frontline" and sponsoring the annual Logan Symposium for Journalism at UC Berkeley. She died on July 22nd at home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 91. She grew up in Hyde Park, and attended Hyde Park High School and the University of Chicago. A qualified pre-school teacher, she taught at the Winnetka Community Nursery School and elsewhere. David Logan preceded his wife in death in 2011. Reva is survived by three sons - Dan, of Alexandria, VA, Richard, of Oxford, England, and Jonathan, of Berkeley, CA, as well as her 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
