I am saddened to learn of the passing of my longtime friend. My life has been enriched with Joan's friendship since we were teenagers in St. Paul and across the years. She was always a compassionate, thoughtful, gracious, generous, loyal and cherished ornament in my life. Today I recall events at our church, high-school dances, accompanying her to Charlie Ward's Christmas Party at the farm in Hudson, Wisconsin and visits to the houses in St. Paul and Northbrook. To her sons and daughters my heartfelt condolences and sympathy.
