Peter Nickeas

Peter Gus Nickeas died peacefully May 30, 2015 in his son Peter's home, at the age of 86. He worked for 42 years for the Milwaukee Road railroad and built a golf course in the Wisconsin Dells. Roller skated into his 70s. As an old man, could toss a baseball into the air and crack it 400 feet without breaking a sweat. Worked for years to reverse engineer Armand's pizza sauce, to no avail. Enjoyed the occasional Metaxa or Ouzo. Made the best chicken kapama around. Couldn't have guests and not cook. Pretty good chocolatier. He was above all a man who stuck to his principles. No job was beneath him, and he worked many over the years to support his family. No work too hard, no task too dirty. His advice was often unsolicited but always rooted in love for family and a desire to see his loved ones do the right thing. His greatest wish was for his family to stick together - a value he instilled in children and grandchildren over many Sunday afternoon dinners - window open, golf on the TV. Survived by sisters Helen and Kathleen; children Mark, Cindy, Peter, and Aaron; grandchildren Peter, Mike, Jack, Kevin and Elizabeth. Preceded in death by Helen Nickeas and Eleni Spiros. Wake at Humes Funeral Home on Lake Street in Addison on Tuesday at 3 p.m., funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the same location. Procession to follow.
