World War II Veteran of the Pacific Theatre; Recipient of 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars for Valor, and a Silver Star Mention. He was a great teacher. Made accounting interesting and fun. I go way back to 1973, downtown campus. I remember he would get excited and start to stutter a bit. He would close his eyes and say "slow down Jerry, slow down". Then he would be fine and go on teaching. A great guy and a great man I remember fondly even 50 years later. Don't really remember any other college profs. Thanks Jerry for teaching me things I still use today. God Bless You and your family.

Gerry was my godfather, and good friend to my dad, Chuck Garlinghouse. He was a special man, and very important in my life. I will miss him and his fantastic memory!

A wonderful, caring, loving man. A hero to our country at war, legend at DePaul University after some 40 yrs as Prof., personal dear friend, always admired so much about this dear man. I do hope we will meet again one day. Condolences to his family.
