ERWIN PESEK Obituary
Erwin F. (Erv) Pesek, 93 years, beloved husband for 62 years of Blanche, nee Kysilka; dear brother of Ethel Stepanek and the late Fred; cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. Erv was a professional 6 day bike racer who competed at Madison Square Garden, Chicago Coliseum, Montreal and Toronto, Canada. During WWII, he parachuted into Normandy Beach on D Day. Following the war, he returned to competitive bike racing until he joined Schwinn and remained there until retirement. Visitation Tuesday, March 6 from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Becvar & Son Funeral Home, 5539 W. 127th St., Crestwood. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (708) 824-9000 or www.becvarfuneralhome.com.

I have fond memories of Erwin Pesek. My grandma, Mary Becvar (nee Pesek)would take my Becvar cousins and me to the coliseum to see him in bicycle races. We always enjoyed them. We also would visit with Erwin when he came to visit Grandma. My sympathy
to the family.

I met Erwin 2 or 3 times in my life; once when we purchased a Schwinn bike and picked it up from him at the plant in 1967, other times just in passing while with my father. My father always spoke glowingly about Erwin's accomplishments and introduced him as "my cousin Erwin the 6 day bike rider". My dad, Tom Cerkez the drugist on 26th St., passed away in 2006. May your memories help to ease the pain of your loss.
