Marianna Florian, nee Bolognesi, age 92, of Evanston, formerly of Winnetka. Beloved wife of the late Paul A. Florian III; loving mother of Paul, Marina Florian (Harry Silver), Peter (Vida) and Mark (Lynne); dear grandmother of Claire, Mark Jr., Robert and Alexander; sister of the late Catrina Grace. During WWII, Marianna joined the American Red Cross in Europe for 18 months. When she returned to Chicago in 1945, Marianna became a leader of civic organizations. She served as President of the Passavant Hospital Women's Board, a Trustee of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Board and was the first woman to serve on that Board's Executive Committee. While working as the President of the Women's Board of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Marianna founded the WFMT/Chicago Symphony Radiothon in 1976. She also acted as Chairman of the Guild of the Chicago History Museum, President of the Antiquarian Institute at the Art Institute of Chicago, President of the Friday Club, President of the Junior League of Chicago and a board member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Marianna was made a Life Trustee of the Chicago Orchestral Association of the CSO. In 1990, she was awarded the Presidential Commendation for leadership and service by Barat College. I have fond memories of your Mom always being the most polite of hostesses. I also have memories of us boys making her upset about something. Ahh, the good times over on Indian Hill Road. She was a gentle lady and will be missed. My condolences to all of you.
