My deepest sympathy goes out to the Brown family. Hammy played QB for my father at Concord and was always a loyal alumnus. He lived life to the fullest and left many large footprints in his journey on earth. He had an edgy sense of humor, a big heart and never met a stranger. May he RIP.

I will always remember "Hammy" as a Big-Brother during our 2 years in the Phi Delta Pi fraternity at Concord College, 1956-58. I was just a 17-year old, dirt poor, bewildered Freshman and Hammy was the 22 year old Army vet, with his own car and lots of money from the GI Bill---and he watched out for me like an older Brother. Our paths did not cross but 3 times in the past 55 years---but I will always remember him for all the good things he did for me many years ago! He was truly a "Big Man" on the Concord College campus with lots of men and women friends---but he never forgot the many principles he was taught during his early years in Hinton. My prayers are with his Family.

My sincerest condolescences to the Brown family. I was assigned to the Chicago Police Department as a Policewoman back in 1974-1976, when I had the privilege of working with your father on a protection detail for Lady Bird Johnson. At that time, the Secret Service did not yet have female agents, to my knowledge, and I along with another policewoman had the honor of being assigned to the detail for a day. We worked with your father, who was in charge, and I will never forget his humor in explaining why we should just call him "Ham". He was truly a man of great service and well respected. I salute your father, as he was one of us also, as Sgt. Al responded. My prayers are with you for peace at this time of grieving.

Our team first met "Ham" while he was assigned to the USSS Chicago office and we were the Chicago PD downtown detail normally assigned to POTUS and other dignitary visits.
One of our favorite memories was when, after a host of speakers reviewed all the redundant details of a POTUS visit to Chicago shortly after a controversial action elsewhere on his behalf, "Ham" was then introduced as the keynote speaker.
He strolled up to the podium, and with that southern type drawl he stated..."Our main objective here today is to make sure that the principle leaves this here great City of Chicago with the same amount of pre-described holes as that of when he entered, Thank You."
Then he sat down.
So short, so distinct, so... "Ham."
Rest in Peace, our brother.
We were honored to have worked with you, side by side.
