A great professor, a wonderful person and a credit to DePaul.

My favorite law professor at Depaul. He challenged your preconceived notions & forced debate. I took his ConLaw class & then attended all of the other courses he taught for the remainder of my coursework at Depaul.

A true intellect & a good guy too. I have many fond memories of discussions with Professor Blackman at our house parties.

He'll be missed....

Professor Blackman was a great teacher. My first day of Con Law, and every class after, he slowly would walk to the front of the classroom, adjust his glasses and microphone, and start drilling the class. I swear, his purpose was to make someone run from the room crying. When I sought guidance from him, not only did I find help; his genius appeared, with humor, deep intellect, and a sophisticated wit. I think of him often and believe I am a better person to have known him. ~

Professor Blackman was a fun and gifted man. A real intellectual. Never one to let the serious subjects of the day get in the way of light-hearted repartee and wordplay. I recall an outer carton of the butter substitute "Promise" margarine being the starting point for a discussion of the components of an agreement in my first-year Contracts course.

My belated but deepest sympathies go out to my good friend and Professor, Rodney Blackman. He was great in making you think hard about issues in constitution law, yet was gentle in his approach. No sacratic "yelling" in his class. As his intern for a year, I treasured his opinions and counsel, and enjoyed the many jokes and life experiences we shared.
Rodney, I will miss you in life so very much. You have taught me a lot I'll never forget. Ed Melillo (Class of 1994)

Professor Blackman was my favorite professor at law school. He was truly a gifted thinker and educator. He inspired me and challenged me in a way that only a few teachers during my education did.

I am very late in posting this message but I want to join the other entries in saying that Professor Blackman was a very good teacher. He was my first "A" at DePaul and that meant a great deal to me. It lead me to believe I could succeed. My condolences to his family.

I have very fond memories of Professor Blackman. He had a brilliant mind and a quick wit. He was my favorite professor at DePaul and one of my favorite teachers of all time. He touched many lives during his life and those of us that knew him are better for that.

God bless you Professor Blackman. May you rest in peace. Mike Ryan (DePaul Law, '94)

I was lucky enough to have Professor Blackman as an instructor and then a friend after law school. As good as they come in both respects. Very sorry to hear of his passing.

I am grateful for the warmth of friendship and depth of learning I experienced each year when I met with Rodney year after year at De Paul University's Center for Church/State Studies.
Precisely because we did not agree about everything under the sun, I was deeply impressed with his gentleness and consistent refusal to try to be bossy or too powerful. He taught by example the importance of avoiding all forms of coercion in religious matters.
Rodney was a real Mensch who made my heart rejoice whenever I saw him, and who fills me with fond memories now that I will not see him again.
His life was a magnificent way of enlarging and hallowing God's name. Yit'gadal v'yit'kadash sh'mei raba! And let the whole bunch of us say YES!

Professor Blackman was a kind soul and a dedicated teacher. He cared about his students and always had time for an encouring word or humorous story. He will be missed.

Rodney was a gentle man. Yet he spoke up, unafraid of being misunderstood (although that occasionally happened). Rodney possessed a brilliant mind and was a caring and dear colleague. The period of his last illness was not easy for him. May he now enjoy a warm, loving, and divine embrace in the eternal world that he has just entered.

Our deepest sympathies to the family of Professor Blackman. We were students of Professor Blackman in 1978 and remember him fondly as a good teacher and a sweet person (a wonderful characteristic not commonly shared by law school instructors). The legal community will miss him.
