HENRY RADLOFF Obituary

Henry O Radloff, 98, revered and beloved patriarch of seven children; 18 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren, died of natural causes on August 3, 2010, after a short illness. Born in Chicago the only son of German immigrant parents, and a great believer in the importance of education, he worked full time while putting himself through Northwestern University, completing 12 years of night school culminating in a BS degree. There he met his wife of 69 years, Virginia, nee Grothus, who predeceased him in 2008. Long-time resident of Winnetka, then Glencoe, and finally Lake Forest, he was a lifelong lover of the arts, particularly music, and for many years kept season tickets to both the Lyric Opera and Chicago Symphony. As life members of the Art Institute of Chicago, both Henry and Virginia cultivated an appreciation for art in all of their children. His warm character, generosity of spirit and sympathetic awareness of people and their needs made him loved and appreciated by all. A great observer of government and public policies, Henry also instilled a family appreciation for the dignity of each individual and sympathy for the underdog. He and his wife had a wide circle of friends whom they enjoyed entertaining, as well as challenging at bridge. A respected executive in the furniture industry who worked with various firms, Henry rose to the position of Executive Vice President of the B. Brody Seating Company in his later professional life. Henry Radloff had seven children: Richard Radloff (deceased), Barbara Baldwin, Tom Radloff, Rob Radloff, Katharine Frisbee, Walter Radloff and Lisa Yount. A Memorial Service will be held at the Vail Room of Lake Forest Place, 1100 Pembridge Drive, Lake Forest, IL 60045 on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Henry may be made to the Ravinia Festival, 418 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, IL 60035. To all the Radloffs - I am sorry to hear about your dad. I have so many good memories of playing over at your house as a child, always under your father's watchful eye that we didn't burn the house down or break our necks riding down the driveway. You are all in my thoughts at this time. Best to all, Maureen
