JOHN CHARLES TRINDL Jr.

JOHN TRINDL Obituary

John "Jack" Charles Trindl, Jr. grew up in Rogers Park, attended Boone Elementary, and Senn High School, where he was a captain in ROTC, and an accomplished marksman. He graduated from Northwestern University School of Speech with a Radio/Television degree. He met Gwen Hawes at The Rock, and the 60+ year love affair began. They were married while he was on a three day pass from the Army during the Korean War. He served in AFRS in Korea, and his radio show brought jazz and other music to the troops. On air he was the Rice Paddy Ranger and Honey Buccaneer, returning home as a Staff Sergeant. Before Korea, Jack worked in production for WGN, and NBC, with The Dave Garroway Show and Kukla Fran and Ollie, and wrote for Watch Mr. Wizard. Returning home, he became a writer at Kling and Vogue Wright, and then went on to advertising. He joined Needham Harper and Steers as a writer and producer and others including Tatham Laird. Many awards, including a Cleo, came over the years. Jack's interests and hobbies included classic Jazz, the CSO, photography, history, mountain hiking, American Indian culture, auto racing and travel. He spent 6 weeks in Australia on business, a highlight of his adventures. Family road trips were frequent, with Colorado our favorite destination and mountain hiking a priority. He loved classic Sport cars, especially vintage Porsches. Owning 3 over time, the last was a 1964 356 C coupe. Jack had great respect for Veterans. He volunteered at the NSSC doing recorded interviews with Vets to make sure their stories were told and remembered. Jack is greatly missed by Gwendolyn Trindl, nee Hawes; and his children Kristin Hoerter, Chip Trindl, Eric Trindl, and the late Geoffrey Trindl; and by his five grandchildren, Nicholas and Kelsey Hoerter, Olivia Trindl, and Carlee and John Trindl. He left this world on July 1, 2011, but his sense of humor, spirit and memory will live on in us forever. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday July 16, at 2 p.m. at The Winnetka Club, 485 Maple, Winnetka. Donations will be appreciated by www.WoundedWarriorProject.org, or The Kellogg Cancer Center, Rm. 4805, Evanston.

Aunt Gwen, Kris, Chip, Eric and families-
We are sorry for your loss. We will always remember Uncle Jack, especially the way he engaged with children and made them feel so special. I also remember hiking with Jack during college, having lively discussions about current events, and watching how much he loved his family. Our thoughts are with you...Love Ginny, Craig, Angela and Alex

Dear Gwen, Chip, Eric, Kristen and families,
I am saddened by Jack's passing and am so sorry for your loss.
I will always remember him so fondly- he is quite unforgettable! A charming, smart, funny, talented, interesting and totally adorable man
who I am honored to have known. Gwen, I don't think I have ever known a man more in love with his wife than your Jack. God bless each of you and your families. Peace and love always, Kim Buol Ribordy
