I´m sad to here of Professor Fidel´s passing. He was my favorite teacher at DePaul! I had 2 independent studies with him about immigration and housing.

He also took our class on an amazing day long tour of Chicago!

He will be one of my highlights at DePaul.

He will be missed!

Sincerely
Wendy Fahlstrom Hall

I am just learning of Dr. Fidel's passing. My condolences go out to the family. Dr. Fidel was one of my favorite professors as a Sociology student at DePaul University. I still remember his anecdotes, and smile every time I remind myself to never live next to the expressway.

I just learned of Dr. Fidel's passing and am so saddened by this. He was easily my favorite professor when I was in DePaul's graduate Sociology program. What a wise, funny, and wonderful person he was. My deepest condolences to his family.

Ken and I sat on several committees together at DePaul. I will remember him as a friendly, thoughtful colleague. My condolences to his family.

As an architectural historian I worked with Ken and others in a DePaul neighborhood study group some years ago. When I presented my work on Lincoln Park Ken added a telling insight.I had found 21 different ethnic groups in the population I surveyed one Sunday afternoon and I claimed that contrary to the general opinion that Lincoln Park was elitist, it had "the greatest ethnic diversity in the United States." Afterwards Ken said to me gently, "Sally you understated your case. Lincoln Park has the great ethnic diversity in the world." Whenever we met he expanded my horizons. I will miss him. I had the pleasure of knowing Ken Fidel as both a teacher and a colleague. Ken will always hold a special place in my heart as he was my first teacher in the graduate program in Sociology at DePaul University. Ken was someone whose office door was always open and was willing to go the extra mile to help me whenever I needed it. My fondest memories of Ken happened when I became his colleague and started teaching at DePaul. I always made it a point to stop by Ken's office for a quick chat. That chat often turned into a long conversation about our love for the country of Turkey. I will miss those conversations just as I will miss the stories Ken told in class when he taught me. He was an excellent professor and an even better human being. I will miss you Ken.

I was a colleague of Ken's in the Sociology Department at DePaul University since 1971-72--we arrived at the same time. We shared so many conversations and so much laughter...one of my most vivid memories of Ken is climbing Stone Mountain together when we were in Atlanta for a meeting. Ken, I miss you! Roberta
