Dear Vera, Tony and Marie's Family,
I am so very sorry for your great loss. Maruska was a wonderful, energetic and precious human being who will be greatly missed by those of us who enjoyed her warm friendship. The loss of a person you love is very difficult to bear, no matter what the circumstances are. May your cherished memories of your life's journey together bring you some measure of peace.

Dear Ones,
No matter where I lived, Marie always found me at Christmas time. It was because of those wonderful letters, that I've always been close to the Jandacek/Smelhaus families through all these years. Because of my friendship with her "baby" sister, Vera, I've had the privilege of knowing Marie for over 50 years. She was a vibrant and caring woman that I know will be missed, but through all those memories of her she will live on in your hearts. Know that you are all in my prayers during this time. Much love to all of you.

Marie was a high school friend and though we have had some occasions to see each other over the many years, her annual Christmas letter has kept me in touch with her - I will surely miss her and her letters.
