Suzanne Dyrud Obituary

Dyrud, Suzanne Swallow Mead "Suzy" age 76 of Wilmette, died Saturday, January 29, 2011, after a courageous 10 year battle with cancer. Suzy was born May 31, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Kingston and Janet Swallow nee Young. Suzy attended Downer Seminary which became University School and graduated in 1952 and attended Bryn Mawr College. Suzy was well-traveled and even lived in Italy for 8 years, but she was a proud patriot who loved her country dearly. Among her many other interests she had a passion for the history of Saints and had an extensive library on the subject. She was also a champion needle-pointer. Suzy was active in Planned Parenthood and the Rummage Sale at Christ Church, Winnetka, IL . She was a docent at the Chicago Art Institute, a member of the auxiliary of the Sons of the American Revolution, a member of the Michigan Shores Club and the Sarasota Yacht Club. She was also a member of the Pine Lake Yacht Club and members of her family have belonged to that club since 1913. She was the much beloved wife of M. John Dyrud; mother of Terry (Lorna) Mead, Clay Mead, Gina Mead and Becki (David) Mead Janschutz; grandmother of Andrew, Brianna, Ben, Jessica and Scotty; great grandmother of Addison. Suzy was adored by her nieces and nephews and their parents and their kids. Her brother Kingston "Chips" Swallow predeceased her. A Memorial Service to celebrate Suzy's life will be held Saturday February 26, 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church, Church on the Hill 784 Sheridan Rd., at Humboldt, 2 blks south of Tower Rd., Winnetka. In lieu of flowers Suzy would have appreciated donations to the Lawrence Hall for Boys, 4833 N. Francisco St., Chicago, IL 60625 or the Lawrence University Art Center, Suzanne Mead Dyrud Teacher/Student Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 599 Appleton, WI 54912. Dear Terry Clay Gina and Becki-and John
My thoughts are with all of you during that time of sadness.. Aunt Suzy was the glue that held us together and her passing will truly end an era and connection of our family to the lakes of Wisconsin. I am so sorry I won't be able to make it to the service-as I will be recovering from surgery. But I just want you all to know she was loved and will be missed by us all---

Becki, and family;
I'm so very sorry that your Mom is no longer with you. How fortunate you were to have loved her, and had her love; and to know that youll be reunited with her in Heaven. I have just a snapshot of a memory of her from high school; but loved "seeing" her again these past few months. Peace to all of you in these sad days. Hugs...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam. And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it.

Bill, my mother, and I are thinking of you all at this sad time in your lives and sending you our heartfelt sympathy; remember that y(our) mother’s, grandmother and wife’s sprit is inside you all , for she “Lived” you are a piece of her legacy. The death of our Suzy “Mom Mead” is hard to accept for she is the one who has been there for you and all of us; in her life she has shown her children, and theirs, a path to follow and now she is resting with the angels, she loved so, in God's embrace.

Say good-bye only for awhile for she is heaven now Cancer free watching over us all, she will continue to help you all grow, in all she has taught us with her time here on earth, to be strong, to persevere, and enjoy life no matter how many lemons are thrown in your path.

I have found in my life that grief has many various paths and will continue on and off for many years, although the intensity lessons and the fond memories replace the sadness. If you listen with your heart Suzy will be there to help you thorough and to accept the reality of her death here on earth; as she accepted and came to terms with the reality of her cancer that took her from us. And last…listen for the bells to ring for another angel has received her wings.

In grief and with love,
Hugs
Kim
