Kent Chandler Jr.

1920 - 2013

Kent Chandler, Jr., died September 7, 2013 in Lake Forest, IL. He was born the eldest of five on January 10, 1920 in Chicago, IL, to Grace Tuttle and Kent Chandler. He attended the Bell School, Groton and graduated from Yale in 1942. Joining the US Marine Corps, he served in the Pacific and retired with the rank of Major. He attended Michigan Law and became a partner at Wilson & McIlvaine and subsequently with Jerry Jones, who currently is with Harrison & Held. Kent was on the board of numerous organizations including Lake Forest Country Day School, Onwentsia Club, University Club of Chicago, Lake Forest Hospital, Old Elm Club, A.B. Dick Co., the Chicago Horticultural Society, the Chicago Botanic Garden, Northern Trust Bank, the Buchanan Family Foundation, the Chicago Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics and the International Crane Foundation. He was also involved with the City of Lake Forest (Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Plan Commission, Board of Fire and Police Commissioners), most notably as Mayor (1970-73) as were other members of his family. His passions were golf, photography, bird watching and his family cabin in Upper Michigan. Kent was married in 1948 to the late Frances Robertson Chandler and leaves two children, Gail Chandler Gaston and Robertson Kent Chandler; six grandchildren - Kent, Jake, Jamey, Frances, Charlie and Katie; two brothers, Henry and Bruce, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13 at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, 700 N. Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045.
