Raymond Loy Obituary

Raymond R. Loy, age 60, an 18 year resident of Naperville, IL and longtime of Downers Grove, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 21, 2014. He was born on May 5, 1953 in Aurora, IL to Reed and Violet Loy. Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Liz (nee Wittrock); his loving son, Ryan Reed Loy; his uncles, Erwin "Bucky" (the late Ruth) Loy and Raymond (Patty) Loy; his aunts, Margaret (the late Walt) Bachman and Aggie (the late Welling) Lifka; his cousin, Steve (Karen) Lesniak; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry (Jim) Klein, Ken (Char) Wittrock, Peter (Kate Crowley) Wittrock, Martin (fiancé Linda Carlson) Wittrock and Annie (Darryl) Rohrer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Charlotte and Ken Wittrock; and his aunt, Joan (the late Robert) Lesniak. Ray was raised in Downers Grove, IL. He graduated from Southern Illinois University and earned his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He was proud to be able to coach his son's baseball teams from the time Ryan was 5 years old. An avid outdoorsman, he preferred to take his family camping wherever their travels took them. If you knew Ray, you knew he was always busy doing something, especially around his house. He learned to be handy from his father and uncle and took great pride in his skills. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of calling him a friend. Visitation Tuesday, Feb. 25, 3:00 - 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S Mill, Naperville. Funeral Services 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 26, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington St, Naperville, with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be private. Liz and Ryan - I'm so sorry for your loss. Liz, you and Ray were such good friends. I have many fond memories of our times and group of friends at Vista del Lago (CA) - which Ray called Vista del Yahoo. He was so full of life and fun. I'm so grateful to have seen you all in Laguna Beach last year. Ray will be so missed! You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sad to hear about the loss of Coach Loy. We had the pleasure of knowing Ray as Chris' baseball coach for the past 4 years. He made baseball fun for the kids in senior baseball, from our first season with 0 wins and through the last season making the playoffs. Great memories, great man, and great father to Ryan! Our deepest sympathies to the family.

In high school Ray could run like the wind and always made it look so effortless. I envied that about him. Though I only had the opportunity to see him a couple of times since then. His warmth and smile were still just as quickly offered. Ray came to my brother's wake not two years ago on the very day of our class reunion. For me his care and kindness was a true measure of the kind of man he was and in my heart still is.
Blessings,
Mark
