Sarah Corush Obituary

Sarah Bard Corush, age 95, died peacefully on Saturday, May 03, 2014 of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Saul L. Corush; their daughter, Gail Corush; their grandson, Richard Stifel. Sarah is survived by her daughters Lois Corush Stifel and Maris Corush; son, Joel Corush; dear grandchildren, Brian (Julie) Stifel, Jody Corush Miller, Jorie Corush and Seth Corush; great grandchildren, Rachel, Hadassah and Tzivia Miller, Rebecca, Margaret and Isaac Stifel. Sarah was a woman before her time. She was graduated from high school at age 16 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Chicago in 1939 at 20 years old. A WWII bride, she followed her lieutenant husband with daughter in tow. After the war, Saul and Sarah settled in Rogers Park, where they were both very active in the community. Sarah was a brownie leader, a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She also served as president of the A.L. Sachar Chapter of B'nai Brith. From 1962 - 1999, Sarah was an entrepreneur, leasing and operating several hotel gift shops in the Chicago area. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday 10:30am at Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 W. Montrose, Norridge, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, 251 East Huron Street, Suite 3-200, Chicago, IL 60611.
