Alan Boope Obituary

"Big Al" Boope, the Driver, and proud friend of "Bill W", with his larger than life personality and fun-loving spirit sadly passed on March 20, 2015 at the age of 73. Al is survived by Vera, his loving wife of 31 years full of laughter, his children; Lisa, Yvonne, Renee, Eric and Adam, his nine grandchildren and great granchild.Al is lovingly remembered by everyone. Strangers were simply friends he had not met yet. Alan James Boope, was born in Chicago on August 16, 1941. He worked as a truck driver, and sheet metal worker for Local 73, where he fostered many lasting friendships. Al's special gifts included creativity, desire to help others, a strong back and a musical talent that began with The Three Survivors and brightened many a "starry, starry night". Al's wish was to be cremated so his spirit could be released to come back and be with each of us when we need him. It was Al's wish that he be remembered not with sadness, but with happy memories. There will be a celebration of Al's life on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at The Edelweiss Restaurant at 7650 Irving Park Rd., Norridge IL 708-452-6040 beginning at 2pm. We would love to hear your story about Al's presence in your life.

Now in my mid 70's I recall many memories of those whom I've known in years gone by. Al and Bill Boope were a large influence to me per to my musical career. I bought my first electric guitar from them. This started me on a musical path that I'm still traveling today. I lived on Claremont St just across the street from AL.
I saw Al and Bill rehearse in Al's basement and on occasion I'd hand out near a club they played, as a trio. I recall they sounded great! Bill was always available to chat with even though I was much younger then the guys. Years later at a concert I looked down from the stage and saw these two guys looking up at me an waiving. WOW ! it was Al and Bill. They must have seen my band was playing a concert. They came out to check things out. I was amazed as I'd not seen either of them for many years, This could have been (?) 2008 and possibly earlier. I can't recall. I remember Al's weird BASS that sort of looked similar to a toilet seat. I have no clue what make it was however it was one of a kind, just like AL!
We were able to chat a while after the show and that was the last time I ever saw or heard from them again. Thanks for the great memories.

Al and Vera were amazing neighbors of ours for many years in Marengo. Dinners with them were outstanding and the laughter was abundant, Al and Vera were hilarious. My kids loved Al and when we would walk by or drive by we always waved even if Al wasn't outside, though he usually was!!.. We were blessed to know Al and will carry fond memories of him always. Gone too soon!

Al and I had been friends for 65 years. We met when we were 8 years old. We got kicked out of 6th grade and sent to a reform school. We worked together as truck drivers. We fished two weeks before his passing and caught a lot of fish. I lost a best friend but it's like losing a brother. I'll miss him.

I have only fun and happy memories with Uncle Al. He was such a lover of life and his family. He always knew how to have a good time and you were always sure to laugh really hard when in his presence! My thoughts and prayers go out to Vera and his kids as the world truly lost an amazing person. He was one of a kind and will really be missed. Give my Nana a big hug and kiss for me up there please!
