Walter Wiborg Obituary
Walter L. Wiborg of Winfield, IL. passed away on November 30, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He was born September 8, 1930 in Moline, IL, the son of Wilbert and Helen Wiborg. He graduated from Augustana College in 1953 and was married to Nancy J. Timmerman in January of 1953. After college, he joined the U.S. Navy as an Officer Candidate at Newport R.I. This led to a nine year career with the Navy that ended with the rank of Lieutenant Commander as a P2V patrol plane commander. In 1965, he joined American Airlines. He retired as a captain after 25 years. His Navy and American Airlines careers took him and family to many far away places, including Morocco, Hawaii, and Japan. He and Nancy had four children, Gayle (Donald) Shee of Winfield, IL, Lynn (Mark) Marquardt of Spring, TX, Robert Wiborg of Denton, TX, and Thomas (Sue) Wiborg of Riverside, IL. He was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He is survived by one sister, Marjorie Gottwalt of Rock Island, IL. Preceded in death by older brother Willis Wiborg, grandson Michael Shee, and step-grandson Micky McLean. Memorial Visitation Friday from 3p.m. until 8p.m. at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home 430 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton, IL 60187. Although I did not know this gentleman, our last names are very similar. Not only that but there is a possibility that his father, Wilbert, may have been a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians in the Quad City area. If so, I remember him from many, many years ago.
