Looking through some of my high school memories, I remembered Mr. Andersen and was sad to learn that he had passed after doing an internet search. I can't imagine that this page is monitored any longer, but just in case it is, I want his family to know that Mr. A was a wonderful teacher. I met him while a student at Maine South in the 80s and was so impressed that I finagled my way into taking earth science and then geology with him. He was funny, kind, had great stories, and was as genuine as they come. So many of the things I learned from Mr. A I am able to pass onto my son, who shares a passion for rocks and geology. Thank you Mr. Andersen, and rest in peace.

My condolences to the Andersen family. I had the good fortune of having Mr. Andersen for geology at Maine South in 1976. He was a wonderful, creative & kind teacher. Via memorable field trips, science experiments and funny ways to store critical geological facts, he did a fantastic job in the classroom. His greeting, Sim Sala Bim ..., was yet another humorous aspect of how he incorporated humor into the scientific study of the earth. It was a privilege to know him.

I had the pleasure of learning Geology from Mr. Andersen at Maine South in my senior year 68-69. He was awesome! I never forgot him. I was Geology Chemistry double major in college. Still can remember his amusing acronyms. "Come On Mary Past Peter Till Jane Cries Tears Quickly", the geologic time scale and "Tall Girls Can Flirt And Other Queer Things Can Do" Mohs Hardness Scale. He was funny, he was knowledgeable, and he was inspiring. Please accept my condolences and take some comfort in that almost 50 years later he is well remembered. Joy Schaefer
