Richard Young Obituary

Published by The Chronicle on Oct. 29, 2009.
Young, Richard Alan "Dick", age 56, passed away Sunday October 25, 2009 in Morton, WA. He was born on December 1, 1952 to Frederick Lewis and June E. Young in Chehalis, WA.
Dick always enjoyed life to the fullest which earned him the nickname "Dick Danger." He especially loved mountain and heli skiing. His downtime was spent working at his property at Riffe Lake and boating. Dick was lucky enough to meet the love of his life, Lori. With her came another loving family and ten great years. Caring for his family and friends was a big part of Dick's life whether he was hanging out at the pool on a hot summer day with the kids or taking off on his Harley. It was all important to him. In 1982, Dick started Northwest Sausage and Deli, saying "You can't beat Dick's meat." Micro brewing was a hobby that turned into a thriving business with the slogan "We drink what we can and sell the rest!"
Dick was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Karen Miller. He is survived by his mother, June Young of Chehalis, soul mate and fiancé, Lori Perkins of Centralia, his sons Jonathan Young and Jake Perkins, both of Centralia, daughters Julie (Jeff) McGregor of Chehalis, Nicole (Brock) Piper of Chehalis, Amie (Jeremy) Wheeler of Tumwater, brothers Kevin (Margaret) Young and Frederick Young Jr., both of Chehalis, grandchildren Madison and Alayna McGregor, Hayden Wheeler and numerous nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held at Sticklin Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 30, 2009 from Noon until 5 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Sticklin Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 11 am with graveside services following at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis, WA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 1313 Broadway, Suite 100, Tacoma, WA 98402.

Julie, John, Lori and Family,

Our deepest sympathies for your loss. Dick Young was many things to many people, but most of all he was a man plagued with dreams. He inspired those around him with his tireless work ethic, yet still found time to enjoy the most important thing in his life, family.
Please don't hesitate to ask for help. We would be honored to assist you in anything you need.

With a heavy heart I raise a parting glass to my friend Dick Young "Cheers friend, I'll see you again, but not today."

To The Young Family:

Yes, Dick was known for his hard work and the development of his "BREWS", but I remember him most from his participation in the 4-H Program here in Lewis County. He did lots of things related to the things he was interested in - such as Horses and Dairy Cattle.

Hopefully the things he did and learned while envolved in the 4-H Program were the things that made him what he was - A hard worker, an inventive type person, and one that knew when he had a good thing going.

Our prayers go out to you and all of the family.

Dick touched many lives while he lived mine included. He saw me through some dark days while I worked for him. I will remember how many times he made a bad day better. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Julie,Jonathan,Lori & Family,
We are truly saddened for the loss of such a unique guy! Wonderful smile, great story teller with such a zest for life. He packed alot into 56 years. His memory will live on in all who came in contact. Dick shared at the passing of his father that his Dad was now partying everyday. We are sure you are are too. Cheers!

Julie and family, Dennis and I are here to help your family realize the huge dream your Dad began way back when! We remember the beer and the sausage at the 4th of July celebrations! It still doesn't feel real - he was a genuine guy, true to himself, a good man with a mischievious smile, a laugh that was contagious -- I loved his favorite saying, "I work hard, but play harder!" Upon hearing the news of his passing, we remember thinking it probably was a boating, skiing or 'copter accident -- let his legacy live on -- live it up and love it up, I saw those silly stickers Fri at the brewery-- "I can drink you pretty", "Can't Beat Dick's Meat", and -- thank God we got caught on the front page raising our glass in his honor with the others that loved him so (and your family) -- cheers to such a fun loving guy! We already miss you - we'll drink your share....then sell the rest!

I can't imagine this world without you Dick. You are truly one of the really good guys.
Skiing with you was the best! I came down the blue, clean and pristine, you came down the black, covered in white from head to boot, and that huge contagious smile! No doubt you'll still be watching that snowfall at Crystal.
I enjoyed watching your business grow thru the years and always admired your hard work, energy, determination, and well thought out plans. I loved seeing the pride in that smile showing me around your latest project. As you said-work hard, play hard.
You always made people feel that they were the greatest-it's you who are the greatest! I'll miss you, the conversations, and I'll meet you at the end of that run.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I served many bottles and drafts of Dicks Danger at the Gibson House and Kit Carson over the years. Dick was a hoot to be around. Remember his smile.

I am saddened at your familys loss. What a shock. I remember Dick at about 5 years old perched on a horse and riding with the Junior Possee when his feet didn't reach the stirrups. He was never one to take no for an answer or say wait for me.

He will be missed. I am so sorry.

Lori,
We are way too young to be losing our spouses. I can't imagine the ache in your heart. I didn't know Dick very well, but obviously he was a great guy. I am thinking of you!!!
