Betty CHARLES Obituary

CHARLES

Betty Louise Cole Charles, 86, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, entered The Church Triumphant on January 22, 2015, while living with her daughter and son-in-law in Indianapolis, IN. She was the widow of Rev. Bruce W. Charles, who passed away in 2007. Betty was born April 6, 1928, in Gas City, Indiana, to Samuel L. and Verna McCrum Cole, and was the fifth of six children. After spending over 60 years making Ohio her home, she returned to Indiana a few years after Bruce's death to be close to family. Betty is survived by her loving children: Loyal Charles (Trey Mayo) of Atlanta, GA., Barbara Rettig (Karl) of Indianapolis and Curtis Charles of Ashland, OR; grandchildren Elizabeth, Jennifer and William Rettig and Harry Charles; sisters Mary Robillard and Carol Snow (Robert), and other extended family. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, and three infant sons. A Service of Celebration will be held at Hope Evangelical Covenant Church, 8615 Spring Mill Rd., Indianapolis, IN, on Sat., Feb. 7 at 2 PM, with calling beginning at 1 PM. Per her request and following Bruce's example, Betty's body was donated to the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Betty was a member of Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, where memorial contributions may be made to the children's programs, or to a charity of choice.
