Richard P. Beloved husband of Sarah Behrendt; Devoted father of Jeffrey (Diana) Behrendt, Amy (Fred) Graham, Rebecca (John) Crandall, and Paul Behrendt; Proud grandfather of Nathan, Michelle, Eric, Nicholas, Mark and W. Frank; Passed away on Monday, July 9, 2014, age 80; Resident of Springfield Twp.; Richard was proud to serve his country during Vietnam, as Captain of the U.S. Army. He worked on a one year fellowship with Dr. John Bonica, M.D., the founding director at University of Washington's pain clinic. Richard's life's calling was the medical field, where he spent fifteen years as a board certified anesthesiologist and then another fifteen years as a board certified OBGYN. His other passion was Geology; taking time to travel westward to study further in his later years. A memorial service will be held for Richard at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to Maple Knoll Village. Condolences may be left to the family at

My deepest sympathy to a family that was special to me when I was a little boy in the late sixties-early seventies. I loved visiting your house and playing with Paul all over place. Those times with your family are some of my fondest memories from my childhood...& you used to have "Chicken-Delight" delivered to the house! Mrs. Behrendt showed particular interest in my academic growth and developement and was instrumental in my admission into Wilmington Friends School. I never forgot about your kindness and pray for your peace whenever I think about you.

OH Goodness ~ How can I forget Dick's beautiful smile, astute wit, and his love of medicine, research, treatment, and advice for the sick, Clearly, his life's endeavor and purpose was the care and concern of others. Sarah, your husband was *Extraordinary, Me, - Davey, Daylynn and Daniel were enriched to have known him!. We will always remember Dick as a good friend with a keen sense of humor and the uncanny ability to explain complicated ideas (medical or otherwise) with clarity. We will always be grateful for his (and Sarah's) friendship for over 45 years. We wish to express our deepest condolences to the entire Behrendt family - our thoughts and prayers are with you.
