Carroll Owenby
Charlotte - Jerome "Jerry" Carroll Owenby, 65, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 15, 2011.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late W. Fred and Rubye Foust Owenby. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Alan Owenby.
Mr. Owenby is survived by sisters Kathy Owenby of Fairvew, and Frances Rucker of Black Mountain; a brother, Freddie Owenby of Fairview; nieces Susan Weaver and Sandra Owenby; nephews Samuel Sales, Jeremy Herring, Bo Owenby, and Ben Owenby; great-niece Chrissy Herring; and great-nephew James Herring.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and at other times will be at the home of Frances Rucker in Black Mountain.
A memorial service will be held in Charlotte at a later date.

I am so sorry to hear of J Carroll's passing. We survived High School together. It was always a pleasure for me to be around him. I last saw him at a previous class reunion. My prayers to his family and friends.

I am very saddened to hear of Carroll's passing. He was always a true friend with a contagious, ready,laugh. I had not seen him for many years because of us moving around, but he has always been in my heart. I pray that he will rest easily and peaceful knowing how many loved him. Job well done, servant of the Lord.

We will really miss Carroll ! We've known him since 1977 at The Lake apts. He has kept in touch with us ever since. His memories of the past have always been amazing(all the details he recalls). May each of you find peace and comfort in knowing Carroll is now in a better place. He and my brother (Gene) remained friends from grammer school on. The last time I saw Carroll was a few years back at a party Gene gave at the Country Club in Charlotte when his daughter graduated from high college, and we all had such a great time remembering the past at Fairview School, A C Reynolds and Laurel Pines church. It's hard to realize they are both now deceased in their early 60's, and by chance lived most of their lives in the same city. Carroll RIP. Elaine (Alligood) & Billy Swayney
