JAMES HERMAN FARMER

WAYNESVILLE, NC - "Beloved Husband, Daddy, & Papaw"

James Herman Farmer, 82, of Covered Wagon Trail, Waynesville, passed away, Wednesday, March 20, 2013. He was the son of the late Merrill Lee (Bill) Farmer and Lillie Woods.

Preceded in death by brother, Harold (Red).

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shirley; brothers, Bob and Bill of Clyde; sister, Hazel Bradshaw of Maggie Valley; children, Joy Riddle (Tim) of Waynesville, Joe Grasty (Allison) of Sylva, Jamie Grasty (Tina) of Waynesville, Sheila Woods of Oklahoma, Tim Farmer of Canton, Mark Farmer of Clyde, Sherrie Hall (Charlie) of Clyde; Grandchildren, Megan, Kelsei, Sarah all of Waynesville, Ethan and Eli of Sylva, Levi and Joe of the home, Kenneth of Clyde, and Brittany of Oklahoma.

James worked at Dayco for 36 years. He was an avid wagon trainer, horseman, and coonhunter. He also served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 23, 2013 in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverends, Jack Jaynes and Johnny Chastain officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 at the funeral home. Funeral procession will be escorted to the Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park by horse drawn wagons. Military graveside rites will be presented by the US Army and the local American Legion and VFW.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joe, Jamie, and Levi Grasty, Tim Riddle, Tim and Mark Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Coggins, James Ferguson, Hal Price, John Leopard and Sam Ferguson.
