David Cheadle Obituary
Cheadle Jr.
St. Augustine,Fla. - David B. Cheadle Jr., 60, went home to be with the Lord, February 25, 2012 in St. Augustine, Fla.
David was 1970 graduate Lee Edwards High School.
He was a first round draft pick for the NY Yankee's organization in 1970 where he played several years then ended his career with the Atlanta Brave's organization.
After baseball David went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara M. Cheadle.
Surviving are his daughters Hannah M. Cheadle, Amanda L. Cheadle and wife, Lynne P. Cheadle.
He is also survived by his father, David B. Cheadle Sr.; brothers, John Cheadle, Matt Cheadle and wife, Kim, Danny Cheadle and wife, Julie; step-mother, Mary Alice K. Cheadle; step-brothers, Doug Renaker, Dwayne Renaker and wife, Gillian and step-sister, Leslie Tritle and husband, Scott. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday. March 3, 2012 at Crossroads Assembly of God, 20 S. Bearcreek Rd, Asheville at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in honor of David B. Cheadle Jr. to the following for their help and support they gave him in the last year: Baseball Assistance Team, Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla, and Good News Church also in St. Augustine, Fla.
Thanks to all our family and friends. Life is precious and as Cheadle always said, "Beee Happy!".

I remember playing baseball against David in High School as I attended Pisgah High School in Canton, NC. He was a tremendous pitcher and I always remember I actually got a hit off a pitcher who went on to play in the big leagues. Great guy and I'm truly sorry to hear of David's passing. It was an honor to have played on the same field with him. Rest in peace...

I just found out that David has passed. I went to Vance Elementary with him and remember him after all these years because of his legendary athletic talent, whichever team picked him for any sport was almost sure to win. More than that though I remember his strong character that was evident even at that early age. I grieve with those who loved him and trust that by now God's comfort has allowed you to be filled with thanks for his life.

Mr.Cheadle my brother Tommy Seay played ball with David at Vance school, I remember Tommy had to pitch that night and we had been at grove park inn for my sisters wedding and Tommy and Bobby Mustard drank Champaign, daddy was so mad he took him home and put him in the cold shower! That night he pitched a no hitter and I to this day remember your face! We all thought the world of David and I know he will be missed.

I was at the game in which Dave made his Major League debut. It was on September 16, 1973, and the Braves were playing the Reds in Cincinnati. I was 9 years old, and it was the first Major League game I ever attended. RIP, Dave.

It has been four decades since I last remember seeing David. My memory tricks me into forgetting all those years and only allows me to remember the fun times during the high school days at Lee Edwards. It is very sad to lose him much too soon. My sympathies to family and friends.

I have many fond memories of growing up with David in West Asheville. Vance Elementary,Hall Fletcher and Lee Edwards.

I graduated from Asheville High School with David. Sure I recall David as a great athlete, but I mostly remember him as a very nice person with a great sense of humor - fun to be around. It made me very sad to hear that he had passed. My condolences to the entire Cheadle family.

I played Babe Ruth Baseball against Dave @ the old Vance School ball field in West Asheville many years ago and remember him as an outstanding ballplayer as well as a champion Human Being. My prayers go out to his entire family.

I was deeply sadden to learn of the passing of David. I met David my senior year at Asheville High School. David was a great athlete with a wonderful sense of humor and kind ways. Mr Cheadle and Family, just a few weeks ago on a trip back home to Asheville, I took my wife and friends around to the baseball fields where I spent a large part of my youth playing Little League through Sr. Babe Ruth Leagues and H.S. ball with and against Dave. Telling them about our games together.
Whether we were teammates or competitors he was always my friend and a true sportsman. I told my friends stories about our baseball experiences that I still hold close. He was a leader and a great example for the younger kids to look up to.
This was an absolute shock to me this morning to read this and my heart goes out to you and the family. May God bless him, you and all the family and friends that feel the pain of this loss of a fine young man.

I grew up with David going to church with him at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. In fact, his father, Mr. Cheadle, was our Sunday school teacher all through our teenage years.
