Donald Crotty Obituary

Donald "Donnie" Boyer Crotty

Arden - On July 21, 2011 the Crotty family, TCR family and many residents of the Arden and Asheville community lost a very well loved young man. Donnie was born August 6th, 1995 in Asheville and attended TC Roberson High School, as a rising Junior. Donnie was only 15 years old when he lost his life due to an accident while volunteering at the TCR Youth Football Camp.

Donnie sustained severe injuries to his brain and heart which later caused his death. When word spread of the incident the local community opened their arms with love and many prayers for the family. Donnie was the kindest and most loving amoung young men. His older sister, Samantha, said many times, "He was always the comic relief in an situation and he gave the best hugs." Our hearts are broken and the only relief that we can find is that our sweet boy is up in heaven wearing golden wings and watching over us. He will now be healed and have no scars. He is perfect.

Donnie is survived by his mother, Susie Crotty (Candler), his father, Donald R. Crotty, Jr. (Fort Lauderdale), his stepfather, Honorable Edwin Clontz (Candler), his sister, Samantha L. Crotty (Atanta), his grandparents, Jeanne and Jim Bucher (Swannanoa) and Constance Crotty (Fort Laudedale), also many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be at Groce Funeral Home, 72 Long Shoals Road, Arden, NC, on Sunday, July 24, from 6pm to 9pm. Funeral Service will be Monday, July 25, at Arden Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville Road, Arden at 2pm. An online memorial register is available at grocefuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made out to TC Roberson, Attn: Laura Beatty, 250 Overlook Road, Asheville, NC 28803, with "Weight Room" printed on the memo section of the checks; also memorials be made out to Asheville Redbirds, Attn: James Bradley, PO Box 5944, Asheville, NC 28813. Both the TCR Weight Room and the Asheville Redbirds were a major part of Donnie's life and he was a better person because of both of them.

Donnie, mom loves you and remember, my heart runneth over. Until I see you again my love.

Sweet Susie, I am so heartbroken for you. Words cannot describe the anguish I feel. As a friend and a mother I cry for you and your family. Please know that I am here for you and regret only just receiving the news last night as I returned from several weeks overseas. Please let me know how I can help you now. I was Donnie's former science teacher at CCMS and just heard about all of this. My heart goes out to his family and friends and my wish is for comfort during this year and the years to come. I remember him very well as an energetic and respectful young man who always ready to help out and participate. He will be missed and is remembered here at CCMS.

I did not know your son, but I can tell by the smile on his face and the people that around him, that he was a young man who loved God and there is no doubt in my mind that he gained his wings when he left this earth...he is walking on the streets of Glory with the King of Kings and The Lord of Lords....He did not want to hurt you, but when he got a glimpse of Heaven and what it was like and heard that sweet voice of God and saw His face, he did not want to come back to suffer or hurt you anymore, so God said take him by the hand and bring him right here, this is where he is going to rest....Thank you for sharing him with so many people....

Don, Susie and Family,
We want to say that our prayers are with you. We remember Donnie's wonderful big smile and helpful ways. We had the honor to serve him at the New Life Comm. Church several years ago as sunday school teachers and youth ministry workers. We can only offer our prayers for such a tragic loss, God will carry you through this. Heaven has gained a fantastic young Angel to serve our heavenly father.

Dear Susie & Family
Please accept my deepest heartfelt sympathy and condolences for you and your family. Donnie touched our hearts so deeply. His fabulous smile and quick wit has been etched into our lives. He was always smiling and teasing his classmates. Our hearts are broken and TC will never be the same without him. He is an execeptional young man and Now an exceptional Angel gracing God's throne.
