Arden - Lloyd Johnson, age 73, of Arden died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Care Partners Solace in Asheville.

Mr. Johnson was born October 16, 1943 in Buncombe County where he lived most of his life. Lloyd owned an HVAC company in Asheville and also performed in several bluegrass bands, most recently the Dixie Grass Band. He completed his education at Cecil's Junior College in Asheville with a concentration in Business Law as well as a certificate program in bible studies from the Herbert W. Armstrong Bible College. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served in the Signal Corp, primarily in Germany.

He was the son of the late Frank Johnson Sr. and Leatha Phillips Johnson of Buncombe County. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Surviving are one son Steven Lloyd Johnson and one brother, David Johnson and his wife Hazel. He has numerous surviving nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave. Weaverville with Jim Turpin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Sheba Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the funeral home.

Friends and family are invited to a private gathering on Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 pm at Jack of the Wood, 95 Patton Ave., Asheville and on Tuesday night after visitation at The Bywater, 796 Riverside Drive, Asheville.

In lieu of flowers a fund is being established in Lloyd's honor to offer scholarships to local artists. Donations can be made to www.gofundme.com/lloyd-johnson-memorial-scholarship.
