Arlene Skiengel Obituary

Arlene A. Skiendziel Skiengel, 86, a life resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday evening, Jan. 1, 2019, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her brother, sisters and extended family.

Born on Dec. 21, 1932, in Swoyersville, Arlene was one of 15 children born to the late Victor and Victoria Witek Skiendziel.

Arlene was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1950.

Prior to her retirement, Arlene was employed as a bookkeeper by the former Nelson Furniture Company, Kingston, and, in her earlier years, she was employed as a bookkeeper by the former Crown Nut Company, Kingston.

Arlene was a devout Catholic and a life member of the former St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where as a young woman she held membership with the church's Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.

A woman of many enjoyments, Arlene especially enjoyed gardening and watching game shows. She was also an avid sports fan, who, in her younger years, belonged to a bowling league and a girl's baseball team. She was always full of energy despite her small, "5 foot nothing," stature.

Arlene will be fondly remembered as a loving, devoted and caring sister, aunt and friend. Although her presence will be deeply missed, there is much comfort in knowing that she has found peace with her Lord in Heaven and is reunited with all her loved ones and friends who have gone before her.

In addition to her parents, Victor and Victoria Skiendziel, Arlene was preceded in death by her brothers, infant Joseph Skiendziel, Frank Skiendziel, Joseph E. Skiendziel, and John Skiendziel; her sisters, Mary Gavlick, Amelia Granda, Stella Meckalavage Songaila, Victoria Golden, Genevieve Bonomo and Helen Skiengel.

Arlene is survived by her brother, Walter Skiengel, Swoyersville; her sisters, Alice Skiengel, Swoyersville; sister, Cynthia Skiendziel O.S.F. and sister, Melita Skiendziel O.S.F., both of St. Thomas More Convent, Allentown; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, with the Rev. Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her pastor, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and friends are invited to Arlene's viewing, which will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
