Robert Sprau Obituary

Robert G. Sprau Jr., 81, a resident of Audobon, formerly of the Kingston area, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.

Mr. Sprau was born in Kingston, son of the last Robert and Mildred Hoch Sprau, and was a graduate of the Class of 1949 of Kingston High School.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from January 1951 through January 1954 during the Korean War.

He graduated from East Stroudsburg Teacher's College in 1958 and earned his master's degree in health and physical education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., in 1959.

Mr. Sprau was a teacher at a private school in New York City, McBurney High School, where he also couched the football, basketball, baseball and swimming teams. He later taught in the Philadelphia city school system for several years prior to his retirement from teaching.

Mr. Sprau resided in Gladwyne, and then at the Blue Bell Country Club where he golfed almost every day and had organized several golf leagues. He then moved to The Club at Shannondell where he continued to play golf and organized a pool league for the residents of Shannondell.

He will be sadly missed by his family and legion of friends. Mr. Sprau was a loving, compassionate and generous person who treated people with all due respect and kindness.

Surviving are his loving family who stayed faithfully by his side while he fought his last valiant battle, including his sisters, Jane Anthony and Florence Belenski; nephews, James and Robert Anthony and William and Baran Shultz; and his niece, Suzanne McDonald.

A memorial service was held for Mr. Sprau on Oct. 5 at Chadwick's Restaurant, located at The Club at Shannondell. Private interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society of the donor's choice in Mr. Sprau's name.
