Harold Golubock Obituary

Harold Leo Golubock, 97, of Bethesda, Md., formerly of Kingston and Dallas, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.

Born in 1917, he was the son of Herman and Esther Rittenberg Golubock. He graduated from Wyoming Seminary in 1935 and from Yale University in 1939.

Harold served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1942, he married the former Gertrude Jordan. He was involved with his family's retail ladies' hats and clothing stores until 1968. In that year, encouraged by Gertrude, he went back to school and received his master's degree in psychology. He then became administrator, and then executive director, of the Luzerne County Mental Health Center, where he served for many years until retiring in 1979.

In 1988, following the death of his first wife, Harold married the former June Liebenson Blum, with whom he enjoyed many happy years until her death in 2009.

Harold is survived by his son, Harvey Jordan Golubock, Berlin, Vt.; his daughter, Carol Rae Golubock and her husband, Arthur R. Watson, Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren, Beccah Watson, Sarah Watson, Peter Golubock and David Golubock.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Rosenberg Funeral Chapel Inc., 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating.

Interment will be in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville, following the service.

Family and friends are invited to a luncheon following the interment, at the Fire and Ice restaurant, 111 S. Main St., Trucksville.
