Leo Istas Obituary

Leo E. Bill Istas, 85, of Perry, KS., died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living Center, Lawrence. He was born December 18, 1925 at Aurora, KS., the son of Octave Spoolen and Etta Agnes Chaput Istas. Mr. Istas served in the US Army Calvary. He was the Superintendent for List & Clark Construction Co., Overland Park, KS. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and VFW, all in Perry. He married Madelyn May Chartier on August 20, 1946 at Aurora, KS. She preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons, Jim Istas and David Istas, both of Topeka, Kevin Istas, Basehor, one daughter, Cheryl Pierson, Tonganoxie, one brother, Verle Istas, DeSoto, four sisters, Gladys Peterson and Marie Dochow, both of Concordia, Ella Mae Kimmal, Wamego, Theresa Peltier, Concordia, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Perry. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church and sent in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, PO Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS 66066.
