Bernard Wanner

Bernard C. Bernie Wanner, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011. He was born March 22, 1927 in Topeka, the son of Bernie and Nellie (Marshall) Wanner. Bernie attended Roosevelt JHS and Topeka High, class of 1945. He married the love of his life Ima Jean Farmer and they have been married for 63 years. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated in 1951 with a B.S. in Architecture from the School of Engineering and Architecture. He served in the US Army Intelligence Corps from 1954-1956. He had a private practice of Architecture and later was Assistant State Architect for the State of Kansas prior to his retirement. Bernie was generous, kind, and a wonderful caretaker to his beloved wife and many animals. He especially loved his cats. Any stray cat was happy to find him. Bernie and Jean were both pilots and loved to fly. They enjoyed taking their annual trips to Oshkosh to the air shows and they volunteered countless hours at the Combat Air Museum. Bernie is survived by his wife, Jean Wanner; adopted daughter, Debbie Maichel; Aunt, Judy Wanner and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra. Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery in the Sunset Section.
