Dearest Joy and Family, I don't know if you remember us, but , we lived right next door to you in Pascagoula from 1972-1974. At the time, we had two son's, Billy and Michael. My husband, Bill was in new submarine construction at Ingalls shipyard. We have thought of you often and just today looked online to see if we could find anything about your family. I am so sorry to read about Jimmy. Our memories of living next door are some of our most cherished. Please know that your family will be included in our daily prayers.

I am both shocked and sad to learn of Jimmy's death. He always led with a good spirit, integrity, and steady vision, as a Christian educator, a deacon, and an administrator. When the order of deacon was established, he helped us to gain acceptance and to interpret the order to the UMC. He was gifted in leadership, negotiation, and vision. We are so much stronger because of Jimmy. Thank you, Jimmy! And my sympathy to Joy and all of Jimmy's family.

Jimmy has been such a great leader in our United Methodist Church and a friend and mentor to so many. He will surely be missed. May God's loving presence bring comfort and strength.

I'm deeply saddened to hear that Jimmy is no longer here to impact lives in the powerful ways that God had gifted him. You and Jimmy played a large part in my faith journey....and countless others! I have such fond memories of CEF days....Board meetings in Nashville and awesome conferences throughout the country. May wonderful stories and knowledge of our Savior's promises bring you comfort.

We are writing from the Holy City of Jerusalem where we had the privilege of meeting Jimmy and Joy. We are saddened by the news. Anyone who came into contact with Jimmy was immediately impressed with his integrity, intelligence, spirituality and warmth. We had hoped to host Jimmy and Joy on their return to Jerusalem. We know he is watching us all from Above where he has found repose beneath the wings of the Divine Presence.

Our paths crossed many times over the years as Christian educators, Diaconal Ministers, Deacons, and at Lake Junaluska. I worked with Jimmy and many others at General Conference to bring about the Order of Deacon. He was truly a servant leader who gave himself to God, his family and The United Methodist Church. He is leaving a remarkable legacy of service.
My thoughts and prayers are with Joy and their family members.

Jimmy was my mentor when I was in the process of becoming a diaconal minister in the mid nineties. His witness was transforming for me and helped me to understand as well as define "servant ministry." He was an amazing instrument of God's unconditional love and grace. My prayers go out to your family, as you mourn his passing.

So many emotions when an old friend passes away. Remembering the good times in Forest MS, Homewood Ms, and ECJC. Jimmy was always a good friend, I know he left this Earth on Angel's Wings, nothing less would do for one of God's faithful Servant's. God Speed, RIP old friend.
