David Cowart Obituary

Mr. David Wallace Cowart, 72, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Oxford, MS . Funeral services will be Monday, March 8, 2010 at Como United Methodist Church in Como, MS at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. John Case and Reverend Martin Case officiating. Burial will follow in Como Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford and from 10:00 A.M until 11:00 A.M. at Como United Methodist Church prior to the service. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dave was born in Memphis, TN on August 14, 1937, to David and Sara Cowart. Raised in Como, he graduated from Como High School where he developed his love for and excelled in sports.
He went on to attend Marion Military Institute and Ole Miss where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After graduating from Ole Miss in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration, he married Carolyn Jackson who preceded him in death in 2005, Carolyn was the love of his life.
After proudly serving his country as a Captain in the United States Army, he joined Proctor and Gamble, where he retired in Meridian, MS in 1995. After retirement, he relocated to Oxford where he pursued his love for Ole Miss and the church. Dave was an active member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church in Oxford and served for many years as a lay speaker at Azalea Gardens and in numerous churches around the state.
Survivors include three sons, David Guy Cowart of Portland, OR, John Wallace Cowart and his wife Lawrence of Memphis, TN and Mark Jackson Cowart and his wife Mary Jordan of Indianola, MS; one sister Bess Carrier of Brandenton, FL; ten grandchildren.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Mr. Cowart's memory be sent to the Friendship Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 322, Como, MS 38619.
In honor of Mr. Cowart's service to his country the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
