Myrtis Pounds Harper, 97, died peacefully in her sleep, Friday, October 14, 2016. Visitation will be 12pm-2pm Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services will be 2pm Tuesday with Rev. John Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at the Hazlehurst Cemetery.

Mrs. Harper was born May 7, 1919, to Arthur and Fannie Pounds in Hazlehurst. A 1937 graduate of Hazlehurst High School, she married James S. Harper in 1940. They were happily married 55 years until his sudden death in 1995. She taught Sunday school many years and was an active member of First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst. Mrs. Harper served as clerk for the local Draft Board from 1952-1973, then as a legal secretary for several attorneys until 2007.

She is survived by son, Jim (Cathye) Harper; granddaughters, Aimee (Bert) Bell and Allison (Kyle) Foil, and five great grandchildren.
