He married Billie Mae Kimbrell May 15, 1937, in Portales, New Mexico. He was a general contractor. He was a Deacon at Bethel Assembly of God where he was a member.
He is survived by 4 children, Barbara, Roland, Kenneth, and Keith; grandchildren, Cindy Higgins, Kelly Mitchell (Bryan), Dawn Tracy (Brad), Kenneth Akens, Jr., Kevin Akens, Renee Wright (Randy), Leslie Kundy (Walter), Katy Akens, Tessa Kirklin, Amanda Wright, and Heidi Wright; great grandchildren, Sarah Akens, Deanna Akens, Taylor Mitchell, Rilley Mitchell, Heath Cone, Chance Wright, Lucy Wright, Thomas Wright, Karma Wright, Cage Wright, and great great grandchildren, Shi Lynn Akens and Dillon Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; son, E. Keith Akens, and brothers and sisters, Wilma, Janey, Clovia, and Hafford.
Services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. So much of my formative years were spent at grandad's house and I was always made to feel like family. A wonderful man, who lived a long life and who has a wonderful family who is left behind.

Our memories of Brother Akens will always remain those of a faithful man.He was faithul to that which he made a commitment to. not only as Christian man but also as a business man. For many years we have attended church at First Assembly of God , and guess who was there to great us .. Brother Akens.." He has finished the race!! To God be the Glory!!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Akens. I remember him from years ago attending the same church. A strong man of God, hold tightly to the promise of God you will be united with him once again when we're all with Jesus.
