Cheryl Ann Maxwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 12 to Jan. 19, 2012.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, friend and pastor's wife, Cheryl Ann Rose Fifer Maxwell passed away at her Midway home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, under hospice care after an 18-month battle with ovarian cancer.
Cheryl was born on June 7, 1957, in Alexandria, La., to the late Joseph Vincent Fifer and Corinne Fifer. She served six years in the United States Army as a preventive medicine specialist, attaining the rank of specialist five. She and Jud met and married while they were both stationed in Panama. After completing her military service, she became a full-time homemaker and has spent the rest of her life in service to God, family and community.
Cheryl never met a stranger. Wherever she lived, she was always a one-woman welcome wagon and missionary to neighbors and newcomers. She was always on the go. Cheryl was a regular Energizer Bunny until ovarian cancer came and short circuited her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Vincent Fifer, and father-in-law, Leo Maxwell.
Survivors are her husband of 32 years, the Rev. Judson L. Maxwell; daughter, Michelle (Dr. Christopher) Nebel; son, Jason (Sharon) Maxwell; two grandsons, Dylan Hairston and Jonas Nebel; two granddaughters, Susannah and Abigail Nebel; an unborn grandson, Scott Logan Maxwell (due in March); mother, Corinne Fifer; sisters, Joy Fifer, Corinne (George) Walls, Andriette Fifer and Audrey Eaton; aunts, Marcella Gerstner and Genevieve Haus; mother-in-law, Erma Maxwell; and numerous other in-laws, nieces and nephews.
There will be two visitations and funerals for Cheryl. For Hinesville, visitation will be at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13. For Thomasville, visitation will be an hour prior to the service on Sunday, Jan. 15, at Summerhill Baptist Church in Boston, Ga.
Funeral services in Hinesville will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Westside Baptist Church with Dr. Tracy L. Brinson officiating. For Thomasville, services will be at Summerhill Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Mitch Clements officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thomasville.
Hinesville pallbearers will be Bob Collette, Keith DiMartini, Wesley Thomas, Lander Walters, Sean Begg, Karl Braley, Thomas Cribbs and Eugene Garland. Thomasville pallbearers will include nephews and cousins of the Maxwell Family.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Hinesville First Baptist Church Women on Mission Tuesday Bible Study Group.
Memorials can be made to Hospice Savannah at PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA., 31416.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jud and family:

It is with a saddened heart that I write these words. I don't know your hurt because I have not been there, but I do know the One who does. With that said, I trust that God will give you the "...peace that passes all understanding." May He surround you and your family with His great love and meet your needs in the days ahead. Remembering you and Cheryl as good Christian friends and hard workers in the church brings joy to my heart which hurts with you. May God bless all of you is the prayer that Nita and I pray for you and your family. In Christian love,

Staci Smiley
