Frederick Anderson Obituary

Frederick Porter Anderson

Memphis, TN

a lifelong resident of Memphis, passed away quietly in his sleep on October 14, just eleven days short of his 98th birthday. Fred graduated from South Side High School in 1936 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the light cruiser USS Santa Fe during WWII. At the end of the war, he returned to Memphis with his new bride, Leta Fay, and resumed his position at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Memphis. He was a faithful member of the South Parkway and Oak Acres Church of Christ congregations where he served as both deacon and elder, and later at Forest Hill Church of Christ. He lived an exemplary life: a kind, generous, hard working, decent man, beloved by his family and many friends. He is survived by his dear wife of 70 years, two children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Friends will gather to share memories 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, followed by services at 2 p.m. Both at:
