Our hearts ache at the thought of being unable to call Joe or visit with him. He had such a kind and gentle soul. We talk about how he would bellow with laughter when he heard something funny, and we smile. How he would smile when his horse won the race. He spoke with pride about all four of his children. He loved you all so much. Jim always said Joe was actually his brother from another mother. We loved him so much, and our lives will not be the same without him.

I did not know Joe personally, but I do know well his sister Jane who is married to my favorite cousin, Ronnie Cole. If Joe was anything like Jane, he was a very loving and a very caring person. My wife Beverly and I are so very sorry for your family's loss and wish you the best memories of Joe over the coming years.

Sorry to hear of Joe's death. He was a good friend to me in Operations Research at Federal Express. It was indeed a pleasure working with him in those early years. He will be missed.

I have nothing but good memories of Joe. I know he and my Dad were very close. Joe taught me a few things...eating Escargot and counting cards are the two top memories :) If you need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

To the Family of Joe - Joe provided FedEx with one of the best minds and guidance of anyone that I had the privilege of working with. A comment he made to me very early in our working relationship was: "I would rather hire the best OVERALL baseball athlete than the best first baseman if I want to have a WINNING team". He was right! Joe was always able to think ahead and reason with the potential results of various decisions. FedEx was fortunate to have a man of his work ethic and capabilities to help guide us in the early days and later as the "problems" of world wide service became more complex. Best to all.
