I remember when I first arrived at the base and I was told that my flight chief would be 'Shorty' Powell. I thought that maybe there were to guys in the world that were short. I soon found out that Jerry was short in statue only. He had a great influence on my military career. He will be missed by ALL who knew him.

As a long time member of the Air National Guard, I can never forget the contribution Jerry made to the unit. For me personally, I will never forget his encouragement as I attended the Senior Enlisted Accademy at Barksdale LA and he actually came to my graduation in support of my effort. He will be missed by us all.

1961 seems like yesterday when Jerry 'checked in' with the unit. He brought a big pair of shoes that made deep tracks in the organization. His depth of understanding on all issues made him a 'hands on' Senior Enlisted Advisor for all the Tenn ANG units. We can all be proud to say "we knew and worked with Jerry Powell." The LORD blessed us when he came our way!

A FISHERMAN’S PRAYER.....
I pray that I may live to fish
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
As good enough to keep.
I am sure that in God's eyes, Jerry (Shorty) Powell was definitely a KEEPER!
Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed dearly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jerry's Family in their loss. May God bless and comfort your family.

To Jerry's family: Jerry was a very dear friend of mine and I always had the most respect for him. We worked together at the Air National Guard for many years and went on several deployments together. He will be sadly missed but the Lord will take care of him. Rest in peace Jerry
