Leiton Barter Obituary
Leiton was born and raised in Jackson, and graduated from Quimby High School in Center Sandwich, before moving to Bow and then Concord. He was proud of being a lifetime resident of New Hampshire and never considered the possibility of living anywhere else.
He served bravely in the Navy during the Korean War, and returned to New Hampshire to have a long career as a printer with the Carroll County Independent and the Rumford Press. With the close of printing companies he worked a variety of places but truly enjoyed his time with Hannaford Supermarket, a job he considered a highlight of his professional life because of his love for his customers.
Leiton was unfailingly kind and opened his home and heart to many people in need. He volunteered at his church and Friends of Forgotten Children. He loved to read, argue about politics, listen to music, and visit with friends. He loved to brag about the number of grandchildren he had, and nothing made him happier than having his whole family together.
Callings hours will be held Thursday, June 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home.
A funeral will be held Friday, June 23, at 9 a.m. at Bow Mills United Methodist Church, with a military burial directly following at the Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South Street, Bow, NH, 03304.
