Carol Elmstedt Obituary

Carol Orpin Elmstedt
Feb. 24, 1930 - March 23, 2015
Resident of Oakland
Carol was born in San Francisco and grew up in Santa Rosa and El Cerrito, CA. She attended Armstrong College, the University of California at Berkeley, and San Francisco State University. Carol was a high school business teacher for thirty five years in Walnut Creek and Concord, CA, and was loved by her students.
She married Charles Elmstedt in July 1988. They lived in El Cerrito for many years, and moved in 2005 to Salem Lutheran Home in Oakland (now Pacifica Senior Living).
Carol had a strong involvement in the Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway. She especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining, visiting friends, travel, craft work, reading, and volunteer work. She and Charlie traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. She had a passion for animals and was involved in many organizations promoting the kind treatment of animals. She was also very involved with the residence council at Salem Lutheran Home.
She is predeceased by her husband of 21 years, Charlie Elmstedt. She is survived by Lorraine, Bill, and Jim Hillendahl of Vacaville, CA; Marilyn Crizer Lowe of Hawthorne, CA, Linda Crizer Morrow of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Audrey Samora of Gold River, CA; and her two wonderful caregivers, Vilma Gallardo and Frechelle Satorre.
A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 650 Alma St, Oakland, CA. A second memorial will be held at Pacifica Senior Living at 3 PM the same day. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Oakland SPCA.

Carol was a dedicated teacher, I was lucky to have her for a mentor at Pleasant Hill High School all four years. She sponsored FBLA and we were very active in the local chapter. Her letters to me when I went into the service were always supportive. Sharon and I still have our wedding gift from her. She was truly a beautiful person, I was so happy for her when she found Charlie.

Miss Orpin was my favorite teacher/mentor/ friend. We always corresponded at Xmas throughout the years. Loved hearing about what she and "Charlie" we're doing. I'm glad she and "Charlie" found each other! Having someone share same interest/hobbies/church and traveling and friends is great! Now she & Charlie can be together. RIP. Always, Nanci Pearson Palmateer

I am so sorry for your loss. If it wasn't for Miss Orpin I wouldn't have succeeded in the career I had for most of my adult life. I struggled so. She gave me the confidence I sorely need.

I am sorry to hear of Miss Orpins passing. She was one of my favorite teachers at Pleasant Hill High School, and I often think of her.
