Florence Bystrowski Obituary

Florence Lucy Bystrowski
Sept. 26,1924-July 7,2011
Resident of Walnut Creek
Florence Bystrowski passed away peacefully at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California on Thursday, July 7, 2011. She was age 86.
Born in Colchester, Connecticut on September 26, 1924 to immigrant parents from Poland, she was raised on the family farm and was one of eleven (11) children. A child during the Depression era, she quickly learned to be self -sufficient, disciplined, frugal and to place a high value on education. Her children would later comment that their old-fashioned work ethic, empathy toward others, and organizational skills came from their mother. Florence and family moved to California in the early 1960's when her husband was the Chief Engineer on the construction of the Oroville Dam.
She received her B.S. degree in Nursing from Chico State College in the 1960's and her Registered Nursing (RN) designation from Hartford Hospital in Connecticut in the 1940's. She was the valedictorian of her high school class. Florence was exceptionally skilled at cooking, homemaking, and writing.
Florence is survived by children Kathy Bystrowski, Paul F. Bystrowski, and Susan Frise; son's-in-law Phillip Pearson and Duane Frise; grandchildren Katherine Pearson, Robert Bystrowski, Kristin McVicar (husband Rob McVicar), Timothy Bystrowski, Edward J. Bystrowski (wife Laura Long Bystrowski), Nathan Frise, and Matthew Frise (wife Olivia Frise); four great-grandchildren; the Bibiana Rojas family; and three siblings Ira Wasniewski, Helene Swider, and Teofila Mikoljcik . She was preceded in death by husband Frank Bystrowski (6/23/2011), and daughter-in-law Robin Stone Bystrowski (4/13/2011).
On Thursday July 14, 2011, a Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek at 10:30 a.m. A Reception and Celebration of Life will follow at the church. All who knew her are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association,
P.O. Box 5157, Oakland, CA 94605-5157.
Florence leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love, made even more amazing by the fact that she met her husband on a blind date!
