Barbara Jean Mohr Hard, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Thursday, March 17th, 2016. She was 80 years old.
Barbara was born on January 15, 1936 in Washington, Texas to Ed and Ida Mohr. She was the youngest of five children and known as 'Johnnie' by her siblings and relatives. Her family moved to Navasota in 1945. She graduated from Navasota High School in 1954 and soon after went to work for Gulf States Utilities where she met her husband James 'Larry' Hard and married him in 1957. She later worked for the Navasota Independent School District. Larry and Barbara moved their family to Conroe in 1968, where she worked at the Montgomery County Tax office and later at CISD Administration offices, Washington Jr. High, and Runyan Elementary.
Barbara is survived by her four children: Beverly Hard Simmons of Conroe; Cindy Hard Fuest and husband Craig of Angleton; James and wife Lorrie of Montgomery; Edwin and wife Heidi of College Station; and Goddaughter Barbara Ford Morris. She is survived by nine grandchildren: James 'Beau' Simmons, Bruce Simmons and wife Katy, Cassie Fuest Hamilton and husband Andrew, Martin Fuest, James W. Hard and wife Lindsey, Jessica Hard Byrne and husband Stephen, Caroline Hard, David Hard, and Mason Hard. Barbara is also survived by her sister, Margaret Ford, of Navasota, lifelong friend Betty Foster of Conroe, and four great grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Larry and by her brothers Herbert Mohr of Bryan, Bobby Mohr of Tomball, and Arthur Mohr of College Station.
Barbara was forever positive and greeted everyone with a smile. She was a selfless person who always put the needs of her family and others before her own. To her kids and grandkids, she was the best Mom and Granny imaginable and was loved, cherished, and respected immensely. She was the center of our family and used her wonderful sense of humor to express her love and provide guidance. Her greatest gifts to her children were the example she set as a parent, as a person, and the secret to her famous fried chicken.
The family extends special thanks to Barbara's friends and to friends of the family for their thoughts, prayers, and condolences. Special thanks are also extended to Dr. Douglass Nelson, Bonnie, nurse Candy and all of the nurses in the M.D. Anderson chemotherapy unit for their outstanding care of Barbara in her final years.
A memorial service for Barbara Hard will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 12:30 pm at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe. Written condolences to the family can be left at www.cashnerconroe.com . In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Salvation Army of Conroe.
