James Thomas "Jim" Chandler

James Thomas "Jim" Chandler, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully in Atlanta, Georgia on June 29, 2017.

Jim was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on May 20, 1917 to Daisy and Omer Chandler. He moved to Evansville, Indiana at the age of 2 and graduated from Reitz High School in Evansville. He married the love of his life, Jessie Woodruff Crosby, on November 10, 1939. Jessie and Jim lived in Evansville until they moved to St. Anne's Terrace in Atlanta, Georgia in 2004.

Jim worked most of his life at A & H Truck Lines in Evansville and retired as one of their vice presidents in 1980. He co-chaired and masterminded the project Operation Good Neighbor in 1956, moving St. Mary's Hospital, patients and equipment, to their current location. He was also president of the Indiana Motor Rate and Tariff Bureau from 1960 to 1962.

Jim was a long-time member of Rolling Hills Country Club, Newburg, Indiana, where he played golf well into his 80s. He was loved for his quick wit and kind nature, always caring more for others than he did for himself.

He was predeceased by his wife Jessie of 77 years, his parents, and his sister Elizabeth. He is survived by his sister Rachael Chandler Settle (Charles), of Dover, Tennessee, his daughter Vicki Chandler Stallings (Ron), of Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughters Courtnay Stallings Leach (Andrew), Athens, Georgia, and Claire Stallings Bowles (Dillon), Charlotte, North Carolina, grandson Ryan Crosby Stallings (Carrie), Dunwoody, Georgia, and nine great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Valerie Franklin for her dedication, love and care for Jim over the past several years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with burial at Alexander Memorial Park, Evansville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
