Darrel Bates, age 84, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Bates had worked as a sales representative for George Koch Sons before his retirement. Darrel was a veteran of the United States Army and had served during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, painting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jeanette (Clements) Bates; five daughters, Pat Antey of Evansville, Faye Colborn of Winter Haven, FL, Susan (Dan) Belcher of San Antonio, TX, Becky (Jim) Leithliter of Carmi, IL and Mary Catherine (Randy) Scheller of Evansville; two sons, Darrel (Pam) Bates of Evansville, IN and John (Jill) Bates of Mt. Vernon, IN; a sister, Connie Gamel of St. Louis, MO, nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Lucy and Hubert Scales; father and stepmother, Arthur and Mae Bates; two brothers, Leroy and Laverne Bates; a son-in-law, Guy Antey and a great grandchild, Haley Green.
Funeral services for Darrel will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church or to VistaCare Hospice.
