Shannon Becker Obituary

Shannon J. Becker
Evansville, IN
Shannon Jane (Dutton) Becker, loving wife, nurturing mother, dear sister, beloved grandmother, callous in-law and faithful friend left this world (in a really cool spaceship?) at 12:20 am, Tuesday, October 11, 2011. She was born on August 21, 1942 to John T. "Pappy Jack" and Dorothea Oswald Dutton Sr.
Left behind for Jesus to collect later are her husband of 46 years, Emil J. Becker Jr., her daughter and son-in-law, Elesha and Brian Downs, her son and daughter-in-law, E.J. and Stephanie Becker, grandson Brennan Downs, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dinah Dutton Jr., nieces, nephews, some very dear friends (you know who you are) and a cat named Tigger somewhere in Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Happy the cat and Muffy the dog.
Shannon went to Rich High School in Park Forest, IL and graduated in 1960 from Bosse High School. She received her degree in elementary education from Evansville College (now the University of Evansville) (where she ultimately got an A in botany) in 1964. She was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity. She went on to teach 6th grade until she had Elesha. E.J. followed and she devoted her life to her family.
Shannon loved baggy pickles, popcorn (and salting the leftover butter and licking it off her finger), Tab, sunrise over the beach in Hawaii, Nebraska football, macramé (what the hell is macramé), and most of her family. She had a tremendous dislike of the word "fart."
She had a special place in her heart for the staff at Select Specialty Hospital, for Deborah, Carol, Jackie and Bobbi Jo and Dr. David Earl Schultz II, his family and staff.
Services will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville for family and close friends with Reverend Jim Luder officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11am until 1 pm, service time, Wednesday, at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riley Children's Hospital, 702 Barnhill Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46202 or the New Hope Animal Shelter, 3143 US Hwy. 41 North, Henderson, KY 424
Condolences may be made to the family online at boonefuneralhome.net.

EJ,
We were three years apart at Bosse. Judging from the obituary your mom led a full and wonderfully fun life. I pray peace for you and your family at this time. God bless.

I helped take care of Shannon at Select I must say she was an awesome lady. She is some one who you don't forget. Now I know why she would make a face every time the word fart was said. Heaven has gained one funny lady.... Kristal Blaine Evansville In.

What a perfect obituary to honor a wonderful person and mother. I know that you all celebrated her life in her passing. I hope this inspires more to celebrate life instead of mourn the loss of others. Great job, she sounds like a precious lady! We will all see her one day when "Jesus collects us as well".
My sympathy....

This is the first time I've ever laughed out loud reading an obituary. Mrs. Becker sounds like she was a fun, wonderful woman and even though I didn't know her, I wish I had. My condolences to the family, I know she will be missed very much. God bless!

Even though I do not know the family, I had to send my sympathy as I can tell based on the obit, the family has suffered a major loss. The minister that eulogized my 86 year old Aunt appropropriately used humor as well--we were all laughing and crying. What a way to celebrate a life! May your memories of this great lady get you through your loss.

I worked with Shannon's Dad, "Pappy Jack" Dutton. He talked about Shannon a lot. Sounds like she had the same wonderful personality as her Daddy. My Deepest Sympathy.

My condolences to the Becker family. And I give an A+ for the obituary, I loved the humorous, personal touches written with the mannerisms and memories of a dear loved one in mind. (I wish more were written in a like manner, highlighting the idiosyncrasies that make us the people we are.) God bless.

What a beautiful tribute to your mother. Making her obit so full of the things that she said and loved. If only more were to write obits like this. I'm so sorry for your loss. But you now have an angel watching down upon you and laughing at what was wrote. God Bless.
