Albert Peay Obituary

Albert A. Peay
Evansville, IN
Albert A. Peay, 87, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on Sunday, October 4, 2015.
He was a simple man involved in living life until his illness. He was the oldest child of Aubrey and Katie (Hunt) Peay of Huntsville, KY. Albert served his family, employer, country, many friends and relatives in a kind and generous way with much dignity and loyalty. He was never judgmental, but always joking. Albert believed that kindness and compassion for others played a huge part of living life. He served his country in Japan after graduating from Rochester High School. He was a Guard at the Sugamo Prison, Japan, where the notorious war criminals were held until their deaths. He returned to the state to marry his sweetheart, Wanda DeArmond Peay. During their marriage of 68 years, they had 5 children. He retired from SIGECO after 38 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Albert and his wife traveled the country for 10 years, seeing many of our national treasures. He had a side business as owner of many properties, which seemed like a hobby to him. Albert was very civic minded, getting involved in many activities at SIGECO, being politically active, belonging to the Hadi Shriners, Scottish Rite, and a lifetime member of the VFW 1114, a Kentucky Colonel, and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Morgantown, KY.
He was preceded in death by children, Rollie and Denny Peay; his parents; and brothers, Elbert and Alex.
Albert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wanda Peay; children, Randy Peay, Clarence Peay, and Angie Francis (Bob); 6 grandchildren, Travis Peay (Vicki), Andy, Tiffany and Shelly Peay, Amy Jarvis (Steve) and Billy Jines (Jessa); 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Aubrey "Joe" Peay, Roscoe Peay (Judy), Tyler Peay (Doris); sisters, Jean Ferrell (Vineyard), and Annie Wester. He was Uncle Albert to several nieces and nephews, and he also has several cousins.
Albert was dearly loved and will be missed by his devoted family. The Soul is immortal and love never dies.
We would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their kind and helping hands these past few weeks. A special thank you to Linda McFarland whose loving care and kindness to Albert was so appreciated by his family.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Alexander West Chapel with burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Wednesday, 3-8 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please support a Cancer Research Center. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.

My papaw was an amazing man who will be greatly missed by many. No one could ever fill his shoes, he was one of a kind! He was a selfless man, a dedicated husband and a loving father and grandfather. They don't make men like him anymore! I was truly blessed to be apart of his life. Thank you Pa-paw for everything you taught me. You might not think I was listening... but I was. May you rest in peace and rejoice in Heaven with your loved ones that have already passed on. Don't worry about Ma-maw we will take good care of her until you meet again. Love Always, Tiffany.

My papaw was very special to me! He taught me a lot of things in life. Anybody that knows my grandfather knew he was a very kind, giving, intelligent, and loving person. One of my favorite memories was Papaw and I would go to (DQ) Dairy Queen to get ice cream. There are so many memories that we had together, I will cherish them forever!

I miss you so much Papaw!!

On our trips to Kentucky, we would often stop at Uncle Albert and Aunt Wanda's home. Uncle Albert and I would play chess; Although, I was never able to beat him, he always left me with an encouraging, softly spoken word, with a smile. We love you so very much Uncle Albert! Aunt Wanda and family, we love you too! My prayers and thoughts are with you all at this very difficult time. His soul has sailed beyond our horizon, so we say goodbye. But as we say goodbye, the family on the other side is saying, "Here he comes!" A Peay Family Reunion!

I could not have asked for a better papaw. He taught me so much. He taught me how to fish. We would go down every summer to my Aunt Annie Pearl's farm to ride horses in Rochester, KY. He taught me to appreciate the simple life. I chuckle about this now, but when I graduated 8th grade my parents took me on a cruise down to the Virgin Islands. Papaw gave me $200 for a graduation gift. Well we went on our trip, and I came back and he asked me what I spent the money he gave me on. Being that I was 14 and irresponsible I pulled out a pair of Oakley sunglasses. They were the "in" thing back then. He had a cow. He could not believe I spent that much money on a pair of sunglasses. I still have them to this very day. "Things" didn't have much value to him. It was his family and friends that he cared most about. I can remember when I was very young he would have me count out $5 in change for him to go play poker at the VFW. He taught me how to drive and gave me my first truck. My only wish is that my future children could have known him. I will pass along the lessons he taught me to them, and I will make sure they know that their great grandpa was an amazing human being. I miss you so much papaw.

Albert was the beloved older brother, always ready to help when we needed it. He was kind, funny, and the absolute repository of all the family history. Wanda and family, you are in our hearts and prayers at this sad time and we will hold you in our arms when we see you. He's not gone, he's just over the horizon where we can't see him and he's with all the family who have gone before us. We love you all.
