James Angermeier Obituary

James 'Jim' Angermeier

Evansville, Ind.

James "Jim" Angermeier, 92, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Bell Oaks Place. He was born January 26, 1925, to the late Edwin and Isabel (Hartman) Angermeier in Vanderburgh County. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he was very active in the Men's Club.

Jim graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1943, and married Lois Elaine Greder on August 16, 1947. Jim and Lois enjoyed traveling to new and exotic places. Together they had three children, Karen, Gary, and Steven.

Jim was a veteran of WWII. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Army Air Corp and served as a B29 Bombardier.

After the war, Jim attended St. Joseph College and graduated from Marquette School of law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He practiced law for many years. Jim was instrumental in fluoride being added to Indiana's water system when he argued the case before the Indiana State Supreme Court. Jim held many public offices for the City of Evansville, including City Attorney 1956 to 1959, Deputy Prosecutor, and Juvenile Referee (Judge).

He was involved in several Civic Clubs including the Optimist Club.

Jim was very involved in Christ the King and Reitz Memorial athletics. He coached Christ the King grade school football team from 1961 to 1976, never finishing lower than second in the Parochial School league. He won the inaugural Parochial and Public School championship. He also was an assistant coach for Reitz Memorial High School for many years.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois; and his son, Gary. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Ann Gough (Michael) of Vicksburg, Miss.; and his son, Steven Angermeier (Rhonda) of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren, Joseph Angermeier, Timothy Angermeier, Michael Angermeier, Brian Gough, Jessica Gough Tate (Brandon), Andrew Gough, Stacey Angermeier Phillips (Tremayne), Bradley Angermeier; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Father Alex Zenthoefer officiating.
