Sean Keating Obituary

KEATING Sean Keating, age 53 of Milford, passed away peacefully in his home on June 29th with his wife, Judith, at his side. Sean was the son of John Keating and the late Burdina Robichaud Keating. He was born in Bridgeport on December 12, 1956 and spent his boyhood happily roaming the community of Lordship in Stratford. Sean was in the very first class of Our Lady of Peace School in Lordship and his graduation in eighth grade saw the closing of that same school. He married his Stratford High School sweetheart Judith Logan Keating in 1974 and together they moved to Milford where they raised two sons, Brett and Sean Keating. Sean was a hard worker who began his working career at Carpenter Steel in Bridgeport, attended Sacred Heart University at night and finally left his job as manager of the model shop of Covidien, Inc. in North Haven in 2007 after being diagnosed with ALS. Sean loved to work, but his real love was life itself. He was immensely proud of the men his sons became and he loved his daughters-in-laws, Courtney Page Keating and Colleen Flynn Keating as if they were his very own daughters. But anyone who knew Sean, knew that his greatest joy in life was his three grandchildren, Simon, Gavin and Hanna Keating. He also leaves behind his sister, Rosemary Tyrell of Middletown, and a sister, Patricia Georgette and a brother, James Keating. Sean was a gifted guitarist who passed his love of music onto his family, especially his many nieces and nephews. When you became a friend of Sean's you were friend for life. His three childhood friends, Jim Grant, Mark Polseno and Mark Dempsey, made sure he laughed until the very end. Sean's body became a prisoner to ALS, but never his mind. With the love and support of his family and friends, he was able to have many days during his illness where he felt like "the luckiest man alive." Sean's family would like to thank everyone who participated in his care during his battle with ALS, especially his dedicated caregivers, Victor and Rosa; his sister, Rosemary; his hospice nurse, Karen; and the entire hospice team. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 2, 2010 by meeting directly at Saint Gabriel's Church, 26 Broadway, Milford at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Hospice Home Care, 680 Bridgeport Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484 or the The ALS Association (Lou Gherigs Disease), Unit D4, Oxford Rd., Milford, CT 06460.

I met Sean at OLOP and we became friends when we played 2 years together for the Lordship Giants. Sean turned my first credit card into a guitar pick. We both had the same birthday 12/12 although Sean was a year older. I will miss our swimming sessions at Gaylord with Sean, Mark Dempsey, Mark Polseno and Joe Collier. I will miss my childhood friend and my prayers go out to Judy, Brett, Sean Jr and the rest of the family.

We were deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are with you.

My heartfelt condolences to the whole Keating family. I had the pleasure of working with Sean as a vendor to US Surgical for equipment purchased for the model shop. Sean and I struck up an immediate friendship and often talked about how much each of our families and sons meant to us. I also have two sons, so we had a common link that was very important to us both. You can always tell what a man thinks about his family by the smile and proud look in his eyes when he talks about them, and so it was with Sean.

I have missed our conversations since Sean became ill, but will always remember him fondly. He was a genuinely good friend, husband, father, and human being, and I am sure he was welcomed into Heaven with open arms.

I am sure that your good memories of him will sustain all of you in these trying times. Again, my sincere condolences.

Dear Judy and Family, over the many years I've known Sean it was always a pleasure to be around him. This goes back to childhood when most of my brothers friends were no joy to me. I remember going to many Jets games with him and even though the losing continued, Sean would keep us laughing. The qualities he shared with us with live on forever. Sorry for your loss
